Guild Training Courses Available

The Guild will be arranging the following courses. The number of courses and their location will be decided after the closing date for applications. Before applying for a course please refer to the criteria listed below. If you would like the Guild to run a course on a topic not listed below please contact the Guild Education Officer.

Advancing in MinorGoing Beyond Plain Bob Minor to ring other Plain Minor Methods

It may be possible to hold some courses on a weekday in the week before or after the Saturday advertised if sufficient requests are made and this is practicable.

Applying for a Guild course

If you would like to apply for one of the above courses please complete this application form. A registration fee of £5 for adult members must be included with your application (cheques made payable to the Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers).

Please send your completed application form and registration fee to the Guild Education Officer to reach him by the deadline shown.

The criteria for applying for Guild courses

Practical Conducting: ability to call a touch of Plain Bob Minor and have a good theoretical understanding of coursing orders or grids: for those who want practical instruction and practice on correcting errors and keeping things right. (This is NOT a bob-calling course – if you are in doubt contact the Education Officer before applying).

Plain Bob Major: ability to ring a touch of Plain Bob Minor and to have tried a plain course of Plain Bob Major and tried (or understand) a touch (and/ or a touch of Grandsire Triples).

Mixed and Spliced Doubles: ability to ring a touch ‘inside’ of at least two doubles methods.

Teaching Handling: ability to handle a bell competently and have experience of/ responsibility for teaching or assisting in the teaching of bell handling to new recruits.

Yorkshire Surprise Major: ability to ring a touch of Cambridge and/ or Lincolnshire.

Basic Instructional Techniques for Bell Ringing Trainers: experience of/ responsibility for teaching or assisting in the teaching of handling and/ or methods.

Oxford Bob Triples: ability to ring a touch of Single Oxford Bob Minor and Grandsire Triples.

Norwich Surprise Minor: ability to ring Cambridge Surprise and a touch of Kent Treble Bob Minor.

Advance in Minor: ability to ring touches of Plain Bob Minor.

Introduction to Method Ringing: ability to handle a bell competently and be able to ring good rounds and call changes. To be able to ring plain hunt on five bells and hunt the treble to a doubles method.

Erin as an aid to Stedman Triples: ability to ring an affected touch of Stedman Doubles competently and to know the Erin front work.

Spliced Surprise Major: ability to ring touches of Cambridge, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
