Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers

emailprint

Salisbury CathedralThe Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers was founded on 14th September 1882 under the patronage of the Bishop and the presidency of the Right Honorable the Earl Nelson; the Archdeacons of Dorset, Sarum and Wiltshire being Vice Presidents; the Revs Wright-Anderson, T F Bigg, and C W Hony being Honorary Secretaries.

Our Guild is a prosperous and happy bunch. A quick look at the 'Events' section on the right shows that we are an active lot organising outings and functions throughout the year.

We encourage ringing of all standards from call-changes to methods and ringers of all standards and inclination are very welcome.

If you are ever in the area please feel free to pop in on a practice night, all our towers provide the warmest of welcomes even in the colder months!

8 Bell Competition at Cranborne

  1. East Dorset Branch, 26.75 faults.
  2. Dorchester Branch, 37 faults.
  3. Calne Branch, 68.25 faults.

Judges comments - Tim Bayton and Guy Collins

General; Better for tenor to push a method than to hold it back.

Band 1 (GST) Peal speed 3h 22m. Felt the bells would be happier at a quicker speed.

Band 2 (CC) Rang for 8m 38s, instead of the 7m required. This led to further faults.

Band 3 (GST) Peal speed 3h 1m.

Guild Festival Report 2011

emailprint

With Lyme Regis lying so far to the west of the Guild, there were members living in other parts of the diocese who, because of the distance involved, could not attend. Again, there were others who sent apologies because they were required for ringing at weddings, fetes and similar functions at this time of the year. A brief outline of the events of the 14th May, therefore, might prove of interest to all who could not attend the AGM.

Choral Evensong was led by the Revd Jane Skinner, team vicar, Golden Cap Benefice, lessons were read by Philip Clarke (Bridport) and Sue Philp (Beaminster) and the singing was led by a combined choir of 26 conducted by Andrew Nicholson. The newly installed organ was played by Linda Nicholson and as well as leading the hymn singing, accompanied the choir in Psalm 150 (Standford), specially arranged canticles and a short anthem ‘Lead me Lord’ with the solo sung by young Sarah Nicholson. The address was given by the team vicar. It was pleasing to see such a large congregation despite various apologies.
