Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers

The SDGR

Salisbury Cathedral

The Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers was founded on 14th September 1882 under the patronage of the Bishop and the presidency of the Right Honorable the Earl Nelson; the Archdeacons of Dorset, Sarum and Wiltshire being Vice Presidents; the Revs Wright-Anderson, T F Bigg, and C W Hony being Honorary Secretaries.

Our Guild is a prosperous and happy bunch. A quick look at the 'Events' section on the right shows that we are an active lot organising outings and functions throughout the year.

We encourage ringing of all standards from call-changes to methods and ringers of all standards and inclination are very welcome.

If you are ever in the area please feel free to pop in on a practice night, all our towers provide the warmest of welcomes even in the colder months!

Books and Pamphlets on Ringing

The Guild Secretary has a bookstall which includes the majority of the titles shown in the Central Council List. There are a number of other titles including Diagrams and also these titles from the Sherbourne Teaching Aids (One-per-learner Book, Follow-on Book, Ringers Exercise Book and Bell Club)

The Guild Secretary will over the course of each year visit at least once each Branch at one of their Business Meetings. If you contact him direct with any enquiry he will advise you of the publication's availability and whether he can supply it.

Ringer? Learn to Ring.

Although this site is initially aimed at existing ringers, providing up-to-date information for all, we hope that non bellringers will browse this site and decide to give it a go. By contacting the Web Master, you can make the first step into the ringing world without having to face a band of bellringers who are quite possibly strangers before deciding it is not for you. Please feel free to browse the rest of this site. There are numerous photographs of our towers and ourselves. The smiles may be forced but I assure you a good time is had by all!

SDGR Noticeboard and Forum

Visit the SDGR Noticeboard and Forum. This is a separate part of the web site in which you can actively participate.

Here, you can record details of your ringing achievements and the results of striking competitions. You can tell us all of any events you are planning and of any news you may have. If you are struggling to get ringers for a wedding then shout for help from here. Or maybe you are just confused about singles in Grandsire - ask for help here and maybe someone will have an answer that makes sense to you. There could just be simply something you want to talk about. Start a topic for discussion and find out what other people think.

Everyone is free to go and look but please don't be shy, take part as well. If you have not used a forum before then the FAQ ('Frequently Asked Questions') and a tutorial will help.

If you wish to post a message or start a new topic then you need to register first. If you would prefer to remain anonymous then it is an acceptable practice in forums to use a false name. Guests are not permitted to post. If forums are a new thing for you then please feel free to use the 'Test' category to practice in. There are already a few of my inane ramblings there.

Hopefully the forum will be a valuable resource for the Guild and will be put to good use. If there is anything you like or dislike about it or a feature you would like to see then discuss it on the forum. It is very adaptable and can be put to a great many uses.
